Enchanted by elizabeth lowell7/6/2023 Dominic knows Meg was promised to another and he suspects the man was also her lover. Dominic wants lands, peace and heirs-male heirs-but the Glendruid women cannot bear male heirs unless there is real love present and Dominic has none to give as he’s been wounded in heart and soul at the hands of the Saracens. His reward is Blackthorne Keep, its lands and the Lady Margaret ("Meg"), its mistress. It is the story of Lady Margaret of Blackthorne, a Glendruid "witch" (though she is really a God fearing young woman who loves her people), and Dominic le Sabre ("the Sword"), a knight who has returned to Scotland to be rewarded by King Henry I for great service in the Middle East. Her writing is wonderfully historically accurate, her storytelling detailed and full of action and adventure, natural sexual tension and conflict that is not scary, contrived or over the top as some romance writers engage in, but rather, it's a very believable story of developing love that is also enthralling. UNTAMED was my first romance by Elizabeth Lowell and since I’ve read many more of hers. I bought all in this trilogy (UNTAMED, FORBIDDEN, ENCHANTED) based on the reviews, and for once, the reviews were completely justified.

Genghis khan and the quest for god7/6/2023 And so, unlike the Christian, Taoist and Muslim conquerors who came before him, he gave his subjects freedom of religion. He created the world's greatest trading network and drastically lowered taxes for merchants, but he knew that if his empire was going to last, he would need something stronger and more binding than trade. Genghis Khan conquered by arms and bravery, but he ruled by commerce and religion. Throughout history the world's greatest conquerors have made their mark not just on the battlefield, but in the societies they have transformed. A landmark biography by the New York Times bestselling author of Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World that reveals how Genghis harnessed the power of religion to rule the largest empire the world has ever known. What Stands in a Storm by Kim Cross7/6/2023 “They were in their home that was struck by a tree due to the tornado,” said Christina Thornton, director of the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency. Two people were killed in the Flatwood community just north of the city of Montgomery. The National Weather Service had warned that strong twisters capable of carving up communities over long distances were possible as the storm front moved eastward from Texas. They were fueled by record high temperatures and threatened a stretch of the United States where more than 25 million people live.Ī total of 73 tornado warnings and 120 severe thunderstorm warnings were issued from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning, said Matthew Elliott, a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Tornadoes damaged numerous homes, destroyed a fire station, briefly trapped people in a grocery store and ripped the roof off an apartment complex in Mississippi, while two people died as a tree crunched their mobile home in Alabama, authorities said Wednesday. Orconomics by J. Zachary Pike7/5/2023 The first that I noticed was a passing reference to a small statuette that summons an ethereal Puma, bringing to mind one Drizzt Do’urden, drow warrior, generally good dude, and holder of one statuette that summons one giant ethereal panther named Guenhwyvar (and I remember how to spell it off the top of my head, hooray!). There was definitely some influence here from some of my favorite fantasy books, or I suppose, some of the first fantasy I ever read. Heroes for hire, arming them, armoring them, et cetera. This is a country where the number one gross domestic product is professional heroics. However, he’s been recruited to go on a quest that is almost certain death! Hooray!!! Luckily he’s part of a party of adventurers who are all very experienced in the field of adventuring. This is the story of Gorm Ingerson, who is a dwarven berserker who has had a bit of bad luck in the past that has lead to him basically becoming a thief. Well, this book was certainly a really fun listen! Our four scores will be averaged together at the end of the review for a final score! The other three judges will then write a paragraph or two highlighting things they liked that weren’t mentioned in the bulk review, where we differ on opinions, and any issues they had with the book. This will be the first official Weatherwax Report SPFBO finalist review! Here’s how it’s going to work for our finalists – the judge who liked it the most will be writing the bulk review. The lion and the jewel author7/5/2023 “Ask ’em my questions and get some answers / What’s a fire, and why does it – what’s the word – burn?” Jodi Benson sings, on fire with yearning. But Ariel wants even more than that – freedom, respect, knowledge. The scene where you see Ariel’s cavern of “ whozits and whatzits galore” is one of the most beautiful Disney animations, and her pride in them chimed with a fledgling age where you’re starting to build a sense of self through your own trinkets and toys. I wanted to be big, and Part of Your World, like many of the biggest Disney songs, is about hungering to have your potential fulfilled. Although I was the big sister, I was the baby at junior school, where I’d skipped a year, and would become tearful and angry at being referred to that way. I was two-and-a-half when it hit VHS and it probably wasn’t ejected from the VCR for another two years, at least until my little brother was old enough to start making his own cinematic demands. I didn’t care for Barbie or princesses, just Ariel, a wily little outcast with miraculous hair. Toshikazu kawaguchi7/5/2023 However, Battaglia praises Kawaguchi’s handling of relationships. While this approach may be useful in the context of guiding actors in their interpretation of stage characters, it goes against the American literary preference for “show don’t tell” in narrative fiction, which promotes action over exposition. “ Working Within Limits in ‘Before the Coffee Gets Cold’.” Chicago Review of Books, November 19, 2020). Battaglia goes further, stating that “the book is written in a way deeply reminiscent of stage direction” and that Kawaguchi struggles with exposition, as he “often resorts to authorial asides, in which he lays bare the weight of his situations and the depth of his characters” (Battaglia, Ian J. Battaglia remarked that Kawaguchi’s style, as translated by Trousselot, is often repetitive and inelegant. Both the Christian Science Monitor’s Terry Hong and Chicago Review of Books’ Ian J. American reviewers of the novel have had mixed responses.
